Morning Wake Up Call: Castavet - Lautrec

-Stumbled onto this band about 6 months ago, downloaded it and never listened to the record. Fast forward to now, I just did an order with Tiny Engine Records and saw that they released this record and it’s now out of print (booooo!) which made me check it out again. I love it. A great mixture of On The Might Of Princes (if anyone remembers that band) and many of the Chicago bands like Ghosts & Vodka or Owls. It’s really fun, jangly and upbeat. Highly recommended.

A bunch of movies

I have recently been on a movie binge and here are my thoughts on some recent one’s I have seen (some old, some new):

Get Low (2010) - great independent movie starring Robert Duvall and Bill Murray. Can’t call it a comedy, can’t call it a drama…lies somewhere in between but the gist of it is that Robert Duvall’s character wants to have his funeral before he dies. Highly recommended.

Marwencol (2010) - a documentary based on a man who was beaten up and suffered severe brain damage then retreats to his world full of army men and barbie dolls. They did an episode of This American Life on him, but this is a further examination of his life. It’s on Netflix “Watch Instantly” so check it out.

Hangover 2 (2011) - not great, not bad. It was fun to hang out with those characters again but with word that part 3 just got green lit (no surprise there) my enjoyment for this forced franchise are dying rapidly.

Bridesmaids (2011) - really enjoyed this one. I personally liked it better than The Hangover 2. Raunchy, heartfelt and everything a comedy of this nature should be. A bit long in the runtime (could have cut out 20 minutes) but enjoyable nonetheless.

The Net (1995) - had to rewatch this movie to see how much of it had “come true” in regards to the way that the internet was viewed right before the .com bubble hit. While some of it is pretty true (our lives are all stored on computers, records etc…) the fact that our identity could be stolen/erased so easily is humorous. All in all, a funny look back but not a good movie in and of itself.

What have YOU been watching?  - Ray H

Coming Soon: Can’t wait for this!  So stoked that filmmakers have the ability to tell stories that otherwise wouldn’t be told.

This is absolutely brilliant stuff…and by brilliant I mean shocking…and by shocking I mean terrible. This couldn’t be more of the moment…I literally hear the seconds ticking on their “career”. - Ray H

Film Review - The Lincoln Lawyer

-Saw this last night and was pretty impressed. Definitely reminded me of a good courtroom drama a la The Firm or The Pelican Brief. Nothing flashy or over the top, just enjoyable.
